The IFST (Institute of Food Science & Technology) is the leading independent qualifying body for food professionals in Europe and the only professional body in the UK concerned with all aspects of Food Science and Technology.

Innovation for Nutrition & Health: The one-day Spring Conference (Friday 4th April 2008), hosted by the IFST North of England Branch, provides an opportunity for experts and professionals from industry and academia to discuss the challenges of meeting the nutrition and health agenda. The event will also showcase some of the current innovation taking place to help deliver healthier food and drink products. The event includes a trade exhibition.

A range of public rooms (including the light and airy ‘Orangery’ dinning room, licensed bar and lounge), as well as the south-facing terrace and extensive formal gardens, all provide relaxing opportunities for informal networking.

Conference sessions will include:
• Current developments in fats and oils, and innovation in frying technologies
• Development and use of speciality carbohydrates for weight loss.
• The challenges of reducing salt levels in foods for microbiological safety and food spoilage
• Developments in food allergen legislation, management and detection
• Healthy food product development

The conference will be of interest to professionals working in the food and drink sectors, as well as those working in nutrition and public heath.
