Occasionally, cherry de-stoning machines can leave behind tiny fragments of broken stone.
A pioneering automatic auto-fluorescence system has been developed to reject fruit with stone remnants. Ultra-sensitive camera systems were designed to cope with the extremely low fluorescent light levels. The resulting system can inspect up to 3,600 items per minute with an air jet rejection system to ensure only good cherries are accepted.
