Where to Find the CIC

The Food Chain CIC is located in the Procter Department of Food Science at the University of Leeds (opposite the sports centre). A map is available to download. (See entry under F for 'Food Science, Proctor Department of') and suggested routes to the University are also available.

Travelling by Train
The easiest option is to take a taxi immediately outside the station and ask for The University Sports Centre at the University of Leeds. The charge will be approximately £3.00. Alternatively, using the map above, make your way up Park Row, turn left at The Headrow and then turn right up Calverley Street past the Leeds General Infirmary on your left. At the mini-roundabout take the second left and you will see the Security barrier. Pass the barrier and you will see the University Sports Centre on your left. The main entrance to the Procter Department of Food Science is in the foyer of the main food science building directly behind the white building (Stead House) opposite the main entrance to the University Sports Hall.

Travelling by car/taxi
Parking is available on the University of Leeds main campus, but this does fill quickly and by 11:00 is almost certain to be unavailable. In addition, parking costs £5.00 which does cover all day. If you are parking for 5 hours or less though the Woodhouse Car Park is cheaper and within only a short walking distance from the Food Chain CIC.

The Woodhouse Lane Car Park is a multi storey building which sits above the A64 that runs through Leeds centre. If, from either direction, you leave the A64 at the Universities turn off you will come off by this car park. Hence, it is quite easy to reach from different directions and has many exits and entrances (so be careful you leave by the correct exit also!). The car park is clearly signed on the building so you should not get it mixed with any other multi storey car park.

How to find The Food Chain CIC:

  • Leave the car park via Level 5 and the pay stations (the car park is one where you take a ticket and pay on your return - so no need to have the right change available on entry!).
  • Turn left and down the slope on leaving the car park, then right through the underpass. You will see an old canal barge which is a pub named the "Dry Dock".
  • Cross the pelican crossing on exiting the underpass and turn right. The buildings on your left are Leeds Metropolitan University (through the door by the library entrance you will find a money machine if you need cash on your return to the car park!)
  • Continue on and over the A64 below you. Immediately after this turn left down a footpath by some stone balls on the grass.
  • Walk straight ahead through a car park with trees - it is perhaps best to walk through as if you were driving rather than stick to the edge of the car park, as you then cross a road and keep going straight ahead following a footpath into another car park.
  • On your right is a tall and very long University of Leeds building called E.C. Stoner and in front of you are 2 red brick buildings. The slightly further one is the Department of Food Science.
  • On leaving the second car park there is a gravel area in front of you. Cross onto this and then slightly left is the front of the red brick Food Science laboratory building.
  • Please go to the Food Science Departmental Support Office in the foyer of this building where a member of the Food Chain's staff will collect you.
